Blackwell’s owned a little book shop in 1879. The boom shop became popular and people from different corners of the city came to purchase books and newspapers from Blackwell’s. The store was tiny and covered only 12 feet square area but soon it became one of the most popular bookstores and expanded by opening a new upstairs shop. The shop saw no turning back and soon it was among the top selling bookstores in UK. In year 1960, Blackwell’s was famous for its international bookselling reputation. The bookstore not only sold reading books but also concentrated on academic books.
The bookstore became widely known and people from different parts flew to check out the collection at this famous bookstore. In 1998, Blackwell has opened its new branch of bookstore at Charing Cross Road. The bookstore is named as London flagship Store. The famous chain bookstores, the Broad Street and the Charing Cross road store won best chain bookseller award in 1998 by Nibbies. The company is still going strong and is owned by the reputed and recognized Blackwell family. The other famous bookstores are on broad street.
The grandson of the establisher of the famous bookstore, Philip Blackwell has been leading the company from last 8 years.
